When Julia emailed me to tell me about her wedding plans i was beyond excited. Everything about their weddings plans sounded like the wedding that i would LOVE to photograph. A couple with authenticity, style and adventurous spirit. A free-spirited ceremony on a sailboat followed by a dinner in a private villa in the hills of the Cote d’Azur. See also Julia & Benedikt’s intimate wedding ceremony on the boat sailing the Mediterranean that happened earlier that day. Yellow, white and ocean blues were the colors of this mediterranean summer wedding. The villa wedding happened in the hills of Ventimiglia, with views over Menton and Monaco and the Riviera coastline. The stars were sparkling, the cicadas were buzzing, the mood was dolce vita and the party was going. Just in time for dawn we found an olive grove to go for some relaxed couple portraits. We had about 10 minutes to work with before the light was gone and the mood was one perfect flowing movement of love and taking portraits along the way. My direction is subtle yet always present, always shifting towards feeling an image and capturing the moment rather then shaping everything to rigid perfection. Reflecting my couples.

Mediterranean wedding on a yacht

This bohemian chic celebration has truly been a mediterranean wedding since it was held on a boat sailing the azure blues of the Mediterranean sea. Julia & Benedikt celebrated a free-spirited ceremony on board a catamaran yacht, sailing along the french riviera for the day. The wedding cruise started in Menton and included iconic views of Monaco, Cap’ Ail and Cap Ferret from the sea. Good music, drinks and relaxed vibes included. When the yacht anchored in the bay of Villefranche the very personal ceremony started. Surounded by an intimate circle of family, friends and yachts nearby, the couple chose to start with a ring warming including all of their guest. An incredibly heartwarming ritual, since everyone gets to bless to the rings before the couple exchanges them. After the wedding celebration everyone jumped off board right away which was great fun. I so much loved photographing this wedding from A to Z. Even if the rough waves made it very tricky to stand and photograph from time to time.

‘Die Bilder sind einfach toll und wir sind mega happy. Auch unsere Gäste haben sich sehr über die Bilder gefreut.’ J +B

Mountain Wedding | Anna & Tom | Tirol

Mountain Wedding | When Anna contacted me and asked, if i wanted to photograph their wedding i was pretty stoked. Anna and Tom are amazing photographers/video artists themselves and that certainly puts the big extra pressure hat on. Next we arranged a skype session to meet between Santa Barbara and Frankfurt. Anna and Tom just came from an early morning surf before work and seemed super relaxed. One of the first things i said to Anna was: I am super nervous to photograph your wedding. She laughed and said don’t worry, just do your thing. We kept on talking about surfing, travelling and living overseas. Having a connnection with the couple right away makes me smile and is something that makes working together so fun and relaxed. Couples putting their complete trust into what i do, I couldn’t be more thankful for. So i was exited to take part in their incredible alpine wedding in the Kitzbuehler Alps. Anna and Tom love the mountains and outdoor activities, a passion that i totally share. The area around ‘Wilder Kaiser’ is especially scenic. Their wedding day was a beautiful celebration of their love, with an incredible atmosphere throughout the day. In the evening Duo Lindemar turned the chalet dinner into an even more magical mood with some heartful playing of harpe, accordian and vocals. I couldn’t have been more grateful to capture Anna & Tom’s special day. Much love. This wedding has been featured on Junebugs Weddings.

Bund Shanghai Wedding in the House of Roosevelt, Bund 27. A unconventional and free spirited 3 days destination wedding in the heart of Shanghai, China.

Some of you might know that i have been living in Shanghai for a couple of years. A city that beautifully melts east and west influences. And certainly a place that is rapidly changing and buzzing of excitement. I love returning every now and then, especially if it is for a lavish wedding like Rotem’s & Florian’s. It was such an honor photographing their international wedding ceremony held on the terrace of the house of Roosevelt. Followed by a dinner event at the Bund’s wine cellar restaurant, beautifully decorated by the talented planners from Weddingism.

Switzerland Wedding | Incredibly excited to share this lovely and cozy fall destination wedding in Romainmotier, Switzerland with you. The couple had their wedding at a location that spills charme and comes with a lost in time feel. The couple lives in Geneva for the past years. Originally from Chicago, they looked for a location that had a typical swiss feel.

Romainmotier is such a cozy little village with a little village medieval feel – perfect for this vintage inspired intimate destination wedding. The Prieur is pretty much the main attraction in this tiny village. So the location has a very unique feel, if you decide to get married here. You will not find any tourists that is for sure. Do not miss checking out the images and have a look-see. Also you will find plenty of earthy tones, colorful leaves and candles. A total sucker for heartfelt charme, character and unconventional locations, I was very happy photographing this wedding and capturing moments.

Dolomites Italy Wedding

Dolomites Italy Wedding. This South Tyrol wedding in the north italian mountains was so epic, it is hard to come up with words. Voels am Schlern is where Eva & Hannes’ bohemian summer wedding happened. The region is famous for its stunning natural beauty, vast mountain ranges and generous hospitality. They got married in a very small village chapel, which came with lots of family history in the place where Hannes grew up. The couple set up a tent for the reception in the middle of nature, surrounded by majestic mountains and right next to a lake. A hot summer night, fireworks and midnight dancing. And no one around, just pure nature magic. What a stunning location to celebrate! Oh heartfelt summer weddings, you are wonderful. Especially if the couple celebrates this authentic, cool and heartfelt.

Mallorca Honeymoon | Strictly love

‘Strictly love’ a Mallorca honeymoon photography session – this couple is channeling rock star vibes and joyful honeymoods.

Inspired by vintage photography taken in the 50s & 60’s i photographed this portrait session at Palma de Mallorca city beach during moody weather. It was the couples’ second honeymoon last November on the spanish island. See also the SECOND PART of the photo series we created at the same honeymoon. And if you still can’t get enough of these two – like myself – check out their destination wedding in Marrakech. There are one of those couples that i could shoot everyday. Not sure what it is exactly that i love about them that, it is most likely that natural heartfelt energy and Gabriella’s effortless beauty. The couple stayed at Hotel  St. Francesc in Palma, an old convent that turned into a 5-Star Hotel.

‘I just looked through the photos again and I have to say, I really love the way you edit your pictures. If I didn’t know it was me and Danny, I would think I was looking at a couple from 50 years ago, the photos look so timeless. You really have a talent for this Chris, I feel so lucky that we met you!’ Gab

I loved photographing this romantic Chateau de Massillan wedding in the heart of Provence. Chateau de Massillan is a beautiful chateau with relaxed vibes. It comes with a huge parc – so we found a great variety of photo ops to choose from. Around sunset we took a strolll to a line of cypress trees that are so typical for Provence. It’s been my second time in the chateau photographing a wedding so i was beyond exciting to return again.

Rebecca & Tristan flew in from London, Uk with their family and friends to celebrate their wedding in the heart of Provence. The couple made this luxury hotel, which dates back to the 16th century, home for the weekend. Their laid back wedding reception was held under the summer sky in the intimate castle courtyard. The couple exchanged their vows in the nearby church of Uchaux, which was nothing but super sweet. It was a perfect summer day celebration with happy vibes and lots of laughter. British certainly know how to exchange some decent banter that made everyone laugh. Looking forward to returning to Massillan soon again.

Spiegelsaal Berlin Wedding

Spiegelsaal Berlin Wedding. If you ask my why i love photographing weddings so much, this wedding is certainly one of the first one’s that comes to my mind. These two kind souls were so joyful throughout the whole day, it was just so beautiful to photograph. Also i love how many things are a bit unconventional and ‘laissez-faire’, perfectly reflecting these two creative architects that met in New York City. Now living and working in Berlin they wanted a wedding that reflected them well. And it surly was.

Forever grateful to have captured this german american wedding celebration in St. Elisabeth in Mitte and the reception in Spiegelsaal. Two unique locations that are equally stunning as much as they reflect the history and architecture of Berlin. If you wish to see more images from Spiegelsaal, check out these.

Hong Kong bride Effie is the epitome of an effortless and natural beauty. I took these portraits the morning after her wedding and i totally love the imperfect look that she is owning. It does not care if the dress is crinkle-free, if you do wear full on make-up or aim for the perfect pose. What cares is that you are confident with any approach. Effie looked great on her wedding day and also the day after. Because she radiates beauty & elegance anyway. To me that is deeply inspiring to photograph.

Perfection is a concept that we create. I much more adore the japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi. Wabi Sabi celebrates the imperfect cracks in a structure. Where everything is constantly changing. Where beauty tells a story. It is just so beautiful. The dress tells the beautiful story of the wedding celebration. Her face is relaxed and happy. Find images of her wedding and portraits with Winston here.
