Mia & Sebi | Chateau de Massillan Wedding | Provence

‘We chose “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan, interpreted by Adele for my ‘walking down the aisle song’. It is a song that we both love. When we planned our wedding, we imagined how it would actually feel like to be there. This song brought together all our hopes and how we envisioned our emotions to be that day.

We were not following any rules. There was no wedding dance. I did not throw the bridal bouquet. Doing what felt right for us, was the only mantra we went for. For us it was important that the wedding would be a personal and intimate celebration to the fullest extent. Two friends held our ceremony in the garden of the hotel. The whole wedding weekend from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon took place at the chateau, outdoors, which made it very relaxing. We never left the hotel grounds. Overall, we wanted an elegant, but very uncomplicated weekend. Both of us hoped for our guests to relax and enjoy the weekend. Putting aside any pressure on ourselves was important. We were relaxed and extremely happy. Rather than being nervous, we were laughing all along.

We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of who we really are and of what we truly like. In every dish served, in every song  played, we wanted our guests to feel “us” and for it all to make sense, but in a very unpretentious way.

A good photographer was probably the most important thing for us. We wanted natural pictures that would document the full weekend and capture the little things. Looking at the pictures now is almost like watching a movie, allowing us the relive the weekend. We absolutely adore the pictures and couldn’t be any happier with Chris’s work.’ Mia & Sebi

Clara & Matt | Provence

‘We met skydiving. Not quite in the sky but at a skydiving competition and we hit it off pretty much straight away. Matt proposed just over 4 years after we met when we were on holiday in Mauritius. He surprised me by hiring a catamaran for the day. We sailed around some islands of the coast of Mauritius. While drinking champagne in the afternoon, he popped the question.

We wanted to get married in France. We fell in love with the French culture, particularly the cuisine and try to spend as much time as possible exploring France, when living there. Our families also come from all over the world… UK, Ireland, South Africa, Israel so we wanted a beautiful place for our families to spend time together.

Since we met skydiving, we planned an aerobatic display. It took months of planning to get the necessary air space closures to perform the stunt display at the wedding. We were meant to have 2 planes. Due to the weather they had to switch to an aircraft better suited to high winds and cloudy conditions. Everyone loved the performance. We had considered skydiving into the wedding but Clara didn’t want to mess up her hair! A group from the bridal party including Matt & Clara jumped at the nearby airfield on Monday after the wedding.

Chris is amazing! We fell in love with her pictures and style when we saw her featured on a wedding blog and were so excited to learn she was free for our wedding date. She has loads of energy and her artistic vision is incredible. We absolutely love our wedding photos and we can’t stop looking at them and it’s such a joy to share them with our friends and family. The images are so beautiful and even though we had pretty challenging conditions (think gale force winds and thunderstorms) we still got fantastic photos taken in stunning lighting. She really captured the little moments and emotion of our wedding day which was exactly what we wanted from our photographer and we’ll be able to cherish those memories for the rest of our lives. Thank you so much.’

Shannon & Joss | The pirate and the gypsy mermaid | Santorini

When a pirate marries a gypsy, all of the elements come together to make it an incredible event. This is a story of love, swallows, hummingbirds, dragons and sailing boats. Of mermaids, wildflowers, naked cakes and barefoot dancing. Rock jumping, salty skin, sunset sailing and an incredible good time.

‘We selected Chris Spira for our photography. I took one look at her images and knew she had to photograph our wedding. Her photos are magical and capture the sense of euphoria (that I can now confirm) that two people, in love, experience on their wedding days. Chris was very easy to talk to and as we were in Australia and she, Germany we skyped & spoke of things we wanted to incorporate. We felt so at home and comfortable with Chris! Even Joss who doesn’t really like the limelight loved working with her.

We wanted to a natural, effortless shoot that combined nature and told the story of ‘the pirate and the gypsy mermaid’ the angles, use of light, use of our natural surroundings, Chris absolutely nailed it. I couldn’t recommend her any higher. She blended in as one of our close group and I will definitely be calling her to capture the next milestone in our lives!’ Shannon & Joss

Shannon and Joss exchanged their vows at Marizan Caves. They jumped off  Bella Aurora, a historic sail boat. Shannon’s two piece wedding dress is custom made by Brisbane Designer Babushka Ballerina. The wedding planner was Fabio Zardi.

The Fiancee | Desert Wedding

Waiting for you through the storm. Through the winds. Through time.

Portraits of Danny, the fiancée waiting for his bride to arrive. Taken at this free-spirited wedding in the desert close to Marrakech, Morocco. I love these moments, when bride and groom are ready, waiting for their celebration to start.

You can feel the excitement, the nervousness, the anticipation to, the moment, they have been waiting and preparing for so long. The moment, they will be speaking from their heart in front of family and friends, exchanging their vows and finally becoming husband and wife.

Gabriella’s and Danny’s wedding was an incredible powerful journey, since a massive storm was brewing up, just when their vows were to be spoken. The scenery in the middle of the desert, under the stormy clouds, facing the winds and lightnings could not have been more magical, more romantic, more jaw dropping, more fitting to this adventurous couple who chose the desert of Marrakech for their destination wedding.

As ecclectic world travellers they chose a beautiful spice ritual for the wedding, with all guests bringing in a certain spice to mix their very personal wedding ‘Ras El Hanout’. See also more images from their wedding and portraits the next morning below.

happy couple at elopement in santorini, greece

Aryn & Scott | Santorini Elopement

Aryn & Scott eloped in Santorini, Greece. Coming all the way from Chicago they were hoping for an intimate wedding in the Mediterranean with gorgeous summer weather. Santorini is known for its sunlit white washed houses beautifully complementing the blue ocean views. The perfect place for an elopement.

And it rained that day. Yet it was an incredible beautiful and heartfelt experience. Because these two were enjoying the moment no matter what. They just rolled with it and were laughing & kissing in the rain. Their vow exchange was incredibly intimate and thoughtfully prepared. I am still getting goosebumps thinking about it.  And as a bonus we had a few sunny moments when doing the portraits just outside of Oia earlier that day. Santorini never fails to impress, even with rainy weather.

About working with Chris : ‘Chris is a total professional. Her ability to roll with our change in weather and still come up with fantastic photos proves her skill and worth. I have fond memories of us huddling/posing under a rock ledge in a downpour and watching Chris crouch under a very short rock with her camera wrapped up quickly in a scarf to try and keep dry while she shot. True professional.’ Aryn & Scott

Effie & Winston | Penang Wedding

Effie and Winston got married in the tropical garden of the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Hotel. Surrounded by family and friends (yes to circular seating!), their free-spirited celebration was simply beautiful. Under an arch of roses and majestic tropical trees they were exchanging their vows. Even some tropical raindrops kissed their cheeks. They choose the malaysian island of Penang, because Winston had spent quite some time here with his family, so it seemed the perfect fit.

Both are into architecture and design, so their excitement about rugged walls, colors, decor and interesting graphics is mutual. The day after their wedding we went for portraits in the old town of Georgetown. Which is a pretty cool place with lots of chinese influences and heritage architecture. Quirkyness came easy druing the shoot. I totally enjoyed shaping some interesting angles and inspiration was flowing easily.

Effie and Winston, it was a pure delight capturing your wedding and getting to meet and photograph you both in Shanghai and Penang.

About working with Chris: ‘Effie found Chris through her work, literally, images from separate posts that leads us to her website..so from the beginning there’s a level of trust and comfort that helps immensely. It is an extraordinary joy, and relief, especially for the shoot on the big day when you don’t’ have to worry about how the images will comes out. ‘ Effie & Winston

Aishwarya & Nishant | Mumbai | India

Kerala Wedding in Mumbai | This lavish 3 day wedding at the Leela & the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai left everyone speechless. This collection of images show the couples’ ‘Kerala wedding ceremony’ in the hotel garden. Lit by candles, light installations and butter lamps the whole wedding had a beautiful mood and ambience. The bride looked amazing in her wedding sari. The details on her dress were just incredibly beautiful. Although these low light situations at Keralan ceremonies are a little challenge i love photographing them. I think the evening brings a whole new mood to a wedding ceremony which is magical!

Shanghai Love

Shanghai Love | I met these two lovers at my favorite cafe in Shanghai. Jad and Joanne met and live in Shanghai, China. Before their wedding dinner we went for some romantic portraits around the city. They already had a first wedding celebration in Paris and wanted their Shanghai Wedding Dinner to be an elegant affair. We went to a parc since both love romantic strolls around the city and Shanghai has some beautiful ones to offer. Joanne’s orchid bouquet was incredibly beautiful. The bride wore a stunning dress by Jenny Packham.

Joanne & Jad i feel so grateful you have found me! Each wedding is unique and different. And everytime it is a highlight to meet beautiful and kind hearted people like you guys. Thank you!
