Bund Shanghai Wedding in the House of Roosevelt, Bund 27. A unconventional and free spirited 3 days destination wedding in the heart of Shanghai, China.

Some of you might know that i have been living in Shanghai for a couple of years. A city that beautifully melts east and west influences. And certainly a place that is rapidly changing and buzzing of excitement. I love returning every now and then, especially if it is for a lavish wedding like Rotem’s & Florian’s. It was such an honor photographing their international wedding ceremony held on the terrace of the house of Roosevelt. Followed by a dinner event at the Bund’s wine cellar restaurant, beautifully decorated by the talented planners from Weddingism.

Jamie & Justin | Shanghai Wedding

Jamie & Justin live in Hong Kong & Melbourne and got married in the city Jamie is from, which is Shanghai. Maybe you know i have lived in Shanghai for a couple of years and still got lovely clients referring me in Shanghai and beyond. So this is also how Jamie & Justin found me. They both are very kind and incredibly sweet hearted people and it was such a pleasure and honor photographing their wedding in Jamie’s home town. They married in St. Ignatius Cathedral in Xujiahui District and then we drove around town to finally arrive in Park Hyatt Shanghai ‘s 95th floor with majestic views over the city. A venue that never ceases to amaze with incredible sights. I love the vibes during the car drive, both were relaxed. While resting on the back seat of this classic car i took some photos of them. This cinematic scene with interesting lights reflecting from the city outside really made the ambience unique.

Thank you Jamie & Justin. It was a delight photographing your wonderful wedding day. Thank you also for inviting me to your home in Hong Kong a year later, when i was traveling in Asia over Christmas. Your kindness is precious.

Park Hyatt Shanghai Wedding

Jamie | Shanghai

Jamie & Justin are the sweetest! I absolutly loved photographing their wedding in Shanghai and i totally love Jamie’s dress to be honest. The dress is  so elegant with its floating one shoulder sleeve and signature draping. See also more of their wedding day moods on the way to Park Hyatt, Shanghai.

Vien & Michael | Hong Kong Wedding

How often do you get this? The bride and groom were giving a concert to their guests and half of the bridal party was the band? I thought that is pretty rad. They were amazing! This chic event took place in ‘The Langham’ Shenzhen, which is close to Hong Kong. It was glamourous, emotional and a one-of-a-kind wedding. The weather was amazing. November felt like summer and this couple were like Rockstars.

When Michael & Vien were performing together on stage everyone had happy tears. Especially when they sang: Luckily I ‘m in Love with my best friend. Such cool best friends getting married. I feel incredibly honored to have photographed Vien & Michael’s celebration. This wedding has been featured on Love my Dress and the Wedding Notebook.

Tiffany | Shanghai

Modern bride Shanghai | I love portraits around Shanghai. Its a great city to explore with couples and take vibrant street scenes. Tiffany & Ben live in Hong Kong. They came to Shanghai over the weekend for their engagement images. Shanghai is the city where they met and lived before. I know parts of the city quite well and together we came of with a plan which place we wanted to incorporate in the shoot. The former french concession and the small lanes around Xintianti were definitly on the list. For Tiffany’s portraits we started at the Bund. You can still get to experience street life in the city that exudes a beautiful mix of modern and old. See also the couple portrait session in Shanghai.

Shanghai Love

Shanghai Love | I met these two lovers at my favorite cafe in Shanghai. Jad and Joanne met and live in Shanghai, China. Before their wedding dinner we went for some romantic portraits around the city. They already had a first wedding celebration in Paris and wanted their Shanghai Wedding Dinner to be an elegant affair. We went to a parc since both love romantic strolls around the city and Shanghai has some beautiful ones to offer. Joanne’s orchid bouquet was incredibly beautiful. The bride wore a stunning dress by Jenny Packham.

Joanne & Jad i feel so grateful you have found me! Each wedding is unique and different. And everytime it is a highlight to meet beautiful and kind hearted people like you guys. Thank you!

Sylvia & Derrick | Engagement Session | Shanghai

A Shanghai Engagement Session. The ingredients for this session were pretty cool. I am thankful for an energetic couple from Hong Kong. Positive energy came easy to us and we had some great conversations along the way. A  professional Make-Up Artist Team. Supportive drivers that know how to get around in the city. Golden light. Plenty of cold medicine thanks to the freezing  aircondition on the airplane. We also found a few great new locations to explore and mixed those with some classics. Like photographing at the Bund. Clearly adventurous bike moves around the city (thankfully nobody got hurt). Fun cafe and restaurant hopping and sampling.

It was a fun day exploring and photograohing this natural pre-wedding/engagement session around Shanghai. It was a sunny spring day in April, so the city never fails to impress. Sylvia and Derrick you rock. Thank you for having me create your portraits.

Shanghai prewedding sessions

A day in the life of a creative couple living in Shanghai. I had the pleasure of following Tiffany & Ben and Effie & Winston around town to their favorite neighboorhood places and weekend hang outs. Both being into architecture and design you could easily see their choices were pretty cool, creative and design driven. We started in their apartment, then biked around Taikang Lu neigbourhood including a visit to the local wet market and a short stroll through the streets of the former french concession and the bund. Both have lived and met in New York, so we thought it would be a must have to incorporate that flat iron heritage building on Wukang Lu that architectually ‘connects’ those two cities. Other than that we sampled lots of local deliciousness mixed with great conversations and laughter.

Shanghai is lovely in spring and fall. This is a good time to do pre-wedding portraits around the city. Here are a few images from various shoots like the one with Tiffany & Ben and Effie & Winston. Both couples now live in Hong-Kong and both chose to take photos in the city they have lived and loved.

I have been living in Shanghai for some years and always love returning to this city that feel so familiar.
